NPT Roller Derby was started in January 2012, by three skaters after gaining experience and an appreciation of Roller Derby through involvement with other teams in the South Wales area. As there was no team in our home borough Neath Port Talbot, we saw an opportunity to begin developing a new league in the local area.
Our journey so far has been a good one we have brought together a group of dedicated and passionate individuals, who have helped the team grow to where it is now. We are continuously recruiting and have an open day on June 15th 14:00 at Cwrt Herbert, Neath, to gain more skaters and officials.
NPTRD continuously develops and nurtures our members. We have a BRSF Level 2 qualified coach and hope to develop more coaches in the future widening our skater’s skills. We are currently hosting some closed bouts and will be hosting our first open bout this year. We are also building up our two intra-league teams Dolls of Thunder and Steel Survivors.
Roller derby is a contact sport played by two teams of five members roller skating in the same direction around a track. Game play consists of a series of 2 minute Jams in which both teams designate a scoring player (the "jammer") who scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. The teams attempt to assist their own jammer while hindering the opposing jammer.
